Bird Proofing water treatment facilities is something that is commonly requested in the industry and is a must in order to keep water quality high.
Unfortunately in Santa Monica the beach has been rated in the top 10 of Heal the Bay’s Beach bummer list. One of the causes of the pollution is the bird feces in the storm water facility. Although bird netting has been installed, vandals have been tearing open the netting allowing the birds to get in.
The netting has been installed around the pier to stop the birds from getting under the pier. Unfortunately it is an ongoing battle for the authorities to keep the net intact from vandels.
The piers around Brisbane also face the same problem of birds perching under the piers and polluting the water. Bird netting would be a great solution to get rid of this problem as long as vandels keep away. A lesson for us all and a problem still waiting for a solution to solve.
