The Challenge

Seaworld’s stingray enclosure on the Gold Coast, Queensland, was being inundated with birds (such as seagulls) attacking the customers whilst they were trying to feed the stingrays. This is an open air display with only shade sails covering the pond. The challenge was to make a full bird free environment where thousands of viewing customers could enter and exit. It was also important to not block the view over the many Seaworld attractions as there was a viewing platform in this area.

Our Solution

We enclosed the area in netting to make it similar to a bird aviary – only with people inside and birds on the outside.

Project Outcome

  • The netting was installed successfully
  • The customers could enter and exit the enclosure
  • The stingrays could eat their food in peace
  • Customers were no longer attacked
